The last National Spanish event of 2014 came to its conclusion, seeing a record 515 players enter the €550 bwin.es WPT National Barcelona, producing a €249,775 prizepool and a €50,000 payday for our eventual winner, local player Edu García Freixa.

It wasn’t until level 35 that Edu overcame his opponent Josep Galindo, after Edu pushed All-in with A h – T d, after an opening raise from his opponent, and with only 16 blinds left, Josep was never going to lay down his Ace, and called flipping over A c 5 s.

The board brought a certain amount of suspense on the turn, when a lifeline appeared for Galindo: Q d J d 8 s Q c However, the river was of little help, when a 2 h appeared, which cemented the win for our newest WPT National Champion – Edu García Freixa. Among the Spaniards playing the event was famous Pro Golfer Sergio Garcia currently ranked no. 3 in the PGA World Rankings. Sergio made it to Day 2, however, he was one of the first casualties of the day when he was eliminated when his AQ ran into pocket 9’s.
