Poker Pro Matt Smith Took Home $1 Million Top Prize at DraftKings

In the first week of October this year, DraftKings hosted a $27 buy-in Millionaire Maker contest, with a top prize of $1 million, and a total prize pool of $2.2 million (top 15,500 places paid).

When the smoke cleared after the final game on Monday Night Football, poker pro Matt “SamENole” Smith took the top $1 million cash prize.

Smith drafted Peyton Manning, Demaryius Thomas, Antonio Gates, and a roster of other value-play guys. Matt simply used his football knowledge and ability to sniff out value to stay within DraftKings’ $50,000 salary cap and pick 9 players that he saw had the best chance that weekend.

A Poker Pro taking top prize is not a total surprise for DraftKings’ own Jon Aguiar, who has played the professional poker circuit himself (and has a WSOP bracelet to show for it). Aguiar joined DraftKings full-time after finding success playing daily fantasy sports for cash, and seeing the huge upside that presented itself by joining the DraftKings team in the early stages.

Other well-known poker pros also regularly play on Draftkings, including 2-time WPT champ Randal ‘RandALLin’ Flowers, Adam ‘Roothlus’ Levy, and Tony ‘TonyDunstWPT’ Dunst.

DraftKings is hosting its third Millionaire Maker this Sunday, Oct. 19.

The $27 buy-in contest is expected to sell out and will pay out the top 15,500 players. Players are permitted to submit as many entries as they’d like.

Drafting your team takes just a few minutes and you can play as much or as little as you’d like.

With DraftKings, you can enjoy the comfort and security of playing on a 100 percent safe and legal website. In 2006, the U.S. government classified fantasy sports as a game of skill, ensuring that DraftKings can offer a superior gaming experience – world class software and instant payouts.

If you’d like to compete but don’t have an account, sign up today. Make your first deposit and use code WPT to receive a FREE $2 entry into the NFL $100k Play-Action contest that also runs on Sunday. New users are also eligible for a 100% deposit bonus up to $600, using the same “WPT” code.
