We Nearly Lose Another Boatman!

We have just seen the contrasting fortunes of the Boatman’s. One of them (Barny) is outside bemoaning his bad luck and kicking a cat whilst the other (Ross) can’t quite believe he is still in this tournament!

Simon Hemsworth raises to 300 in first position and four people call giving us a 1,500 pot heading to a family flop. The dealer gives us the [8d] [7c] [5d] and all hell breaks loose. Ross Boatman takes the betting lead for 800, Marlon Vasilda calls in the big blind, Hemsworth generates a little excitement with a raise to 2,500, Loic Bobillier raises the stakes even higher with a bet of 6,800 and the next person to act is Boatman who moves all-in.

"What!" Says Vasilda in the big blind before taking off his glasses and surveying the action. He eventually folds and both Hemsworth and Bobillier both move all-in. Bobillier has top set with [8h] [8s], Boatman has the bottom end of the straight with [6h] [4c] but Hemsworth has them both smashed with the top end of the straight and redraw to the flush [9d] [6d].

Players from the other tables surround the action and Scott Shelley says, "will an off suit nine do you Ross?"

"It would be nice," Boatman replies.

The dealer turns over the [9h] giving Boatman exactly what he needed. The card was even more miraculous after Sam El Sayed tells the table that he folded a nine. The river was the [Jc] and Boatman and Hemsworth share the spoils whilst Bobillier is off to tell his friends about his bad beat story.
