Team New Zealand Eliminated in 8th Place by Team China

Sep 21, 2018

Team New Zealand

After a flop of Heart 9Spade 7Diamond 6, Paul Hockin (New Zealand) checks the big blind, Guoliang Wei (China) bets 22,000 from UTG+1, and Hockin check-raises all in for about 125,000.

Wei thinks for a bit before he calls with a slightly larger stack and turns over Spade AClub A. Hockin shows Spade 8Diamond 8 for a pair with an open-ended straight draw, and he needs to improve to keep Team New Zealand alive.

The turn card is the Spade Q, the river card is the Diamond J, and the pocket aces hold up for Wei to win the pot and eliminate Team New Zealand from the tournament.

Here are the approximate chip counts after the hand:

Seat 1.  Hong Kong SAR  –  272,000
Seat 2.  China  –  341,000
Seat 3.  Korea  –  255,000

Seat 5.  Taiwan SAR  –  275,000
Seat 6.  Netherlands  –  345,000
Seat 7.  Malaysia  –  245,000
