Sebastian Ruiz Leads after WPT Main Event Day 1A

With the start of Day 1A of the WPT Amsterdam Main Event, the search for the next member of the Champions Club began, with 80 players taking their seats at the Holland Casino in the heart of the Dutch capital.

And at the end of eight levels today it was Chilean player Sebastian Ruiz who tops the chip counts and is the only player over 200,000 in chips with a stack of 210,500. Ruiz’s best result came back in 2014 when he finished 7th at the BSOP Sao Paulo Main Event for $49,544 but he will be eyeing up a bigger payday ahead of Day 2.

Play was also underway in the High Roller final day, with Dutch bracelet winner Rob Hollink wrapping up victory shortly before the end of Day 1A in the Main Event for €139,323. Other players who cashed in that High Roller and bagged at the end of the Main Event Day 1A are Paul Newey (58,600), Robert Soogea (103,500) and Zhang Yang (59,700).

PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos said that he has “Done so much with 17 big blinds before,” after we asked him whether he would be playing again tomorrow after he bagged up 14,200.

WPTDeepStacks champion Thijs Menco also bagged at the end of the day for 39,200, as well as Andreas Klatt (103,600) who remains in the driving seat at the top of the MonteDam Swing leaderboard.

Other players advancing to Day 2 include Daniel Danivar (197,000), Michiel Brummelhuis (80,700), Vincent Gabel (60,700), Bryan Paris (52,400), Jack Salter (30,700), Louis Salter (33,000), and Tom Hall (103,900).

Husband and wife duo Fabrice Soulier and Claire Renaut will also be joining the field in Day 2, with Renaut being able to claim the bragging rights (for now), bagging up 102,600 compared to her husband’s 61,900.
