Sam Panzica and Dong Jun Ji Chop a Three-Way All-In

Apr 14, 2018

After a flop of Diamond 10Club 9Diamond 7, Nancy Birnbaum checks the small blind, and the under-the-gun player bets 11,000. Dong Jun Ji moves all in from middle position for 30,925, and Sam Panzica calls all in from the hijack for 21,000.

Birnbaum folds, and the under-the-gun player asks for an exact count of Ji’s chips and tanks for a while before he calls, covering both players.

Here are their cards in descending order of chip counts:

UTG:  Spade JSpade 10  (pair of tens, gutshot straight draw)
Dong Jun Ji:  Diamond 9Diamond 8  (pair of nines, open-ended straight draw)
Sam Panzica:  Spade 8Heart 8  (pair of eights, open-ended straight draw)

Birnbaum says she would have been in the lead.

The turn card is the Heart 4, the river card is the Heart 6, and Ji and Panzica river identical ten-high straights to chop the three-way pot between them.

Dong Jun Ji  –  65,000  (81 bb)
Sam Panzica  –  45,500  (57 bb)
