Play concluded Sunday evening at the Emperors Palace Hotel & Casino. The R12,000 Main Event boasted a field of 436 entries besting last year’s mark and generating a prize pool of R4,656,500.

Following three days of play, Ray Adam laid claim to the tournament’s title.  Adam earned R1,000,000 in addition to the WPTDeepStacks Johannesburg trophy.

Today started with 27 players advancing. There was a fury of bustouts from the start and that 27 diminished down to 14 within the first hour and a half. Play slowed down considerably after that.

Theo Hunter fell in 13th place when the champion Adam’s spiked a deuce on the river to eliminate him. The next to go after that was Rob Fenner who lost a flop to Chad Moolman.

There was a few double ups until the next elimination which happened to be Gary Allen. Allen shoved with pocket threes and lost the race against Maneesh Singh’s Ace Queen.

There was a few more big double ups until Rex Hsu became the final table bubble boy. Moolman scored another knockout when his pocket queens held against Hsu’s pocket fives.

Here’s how everyone stacked up at the commencement of the final table:

Seat 1: Ray Adam – 2,200,000
Seat 2: Motokatsu Uhara – 1720,000
Seat 3: Vaughan Thomson – 1,040,000
Seat 4: Clinton Reddy – 2,155,000
Seat 5: Maneesh Singh – 380,000
Seat 6: Eben Lottering – 2,050,000
Seat 7: Chad Moolman – 1,850,000
Seat 8: You Zeng – 720,000
Seat 9: Conrad Coetzer – 995,000

It was Moolman who scored yet another elimination when his pocket kings held against Maneesh Singh’s Ace Ten. Singh took home a nice pay day of R95,000 for his efforts.

It was Vaughan Thomson’s turn to do the dirty work as his Ace King defeated  Conrad Coetzer’s Jack Nine to eliminate him in eight place (R119,000)

After an unbelievable run defending champion You Zeng fell in seventh place to Clinton Reddy. It was then that there would officially be a new WPTDeepStacks Johannesburg champion.

Motokatsu Uhara was the next to go when his pocket sixes couldn’t stand up against Ray Adam’s Diamond ADiamond 10. After that it was Clinton Reddy’s turn when his pocket queens got cracked by Ray Adam’s trip tens. Adam ascended into a massive chip leader at that point.

Eben Lottering doubled up but then was quickly eliminated in fourth place by Vaughan Thomson. Lottering took home R283,000 for his efforts.

Cape Town native Chad Moolman got unlucky to bust in third place when Vaughan Thomson spiked a three-outer on the turn. Moolman took home a nice R405,000 payday.

Heads up started with Ray Adam holding the lead and it was over very quickly. It was a cooler situation as Adam had Spade AHeart K against Thomson’s Club ASpade J. The best hand won and Ray Adam became the champion.
