The heads-up was without any substantial action and big pots from the start. However, all of that changed within one single hand. It started with Jonathan Khalifa on the button, who simply open-shoved his stack of 5,205,000.

Omar Lakhdari had 3,270,000 behind – more than 50 big blinds – and looked at his hand. He exhaled, stood up from his chair and flicked in a chip to make the call.

Omar Lakhdari: Diamond 5Heart 5
Jonathan Khalifa: Heart ADiamond 3

“One time!” begged Khalifa, who wanted to finish it on the very first all-in situation.

The dealer slowly flipped the first three cards and revealed the ace Khalifa was looking for: Diamond QClub ADiamond 7.

“The one time!” cheered Khalifa, who could suddenly taste the victory.

The turn was the Heart 9 and Lakhdari needed one of the two remaining fives to survive. The river wasn’t a five but the Heart K and ended Lakhdari’s run in second place. He received €43,720 ($49,318) for his second place finish.

With his last opponent gone, Jonathan Khalifa is the winner of the PMU.fr WPTDeepStacks Cannes! An extensive recap follows later tonight.
