Mercier Put in Quite the Predicament

Oct 31, 2010

Andrew Batkin raises to 25,000 from under the gun and action folds to Jason Mercier, who is seated in Seat 9.  Mercier asks Batkin for a count and, as Batkin is counting out his stack, Dave Inselberg, who is seated in Seat 1 announces he is all-in.

Mercier is at a loss about what to do and asks the dealer to get a floorman over.  The floorman arrives and is informed that Inselberg moved all-in unaware of the fact that Mercier was still in the hand.

Mercier wants to know what happens if he calls, raises, or folds.  If Mercier calls or folds, Inselberg’s all-in is binding.  If Mercier raises Inselberg will have the option to take his bet back.

Mercier thinks for a couple of minutes before reluctantly folding and Inselberg is all-in.  Christopher Bonita is next to act and he thinks for a minute himself before laying his cards down as well.

It folds back around to Batkin, who folds and Inselberg takes the pot.  The table begs him to show, but Inselberg tells them that he can’t.  After some more pleading from his tablemates, Inselberg obliges by showing one–the [Ad].
