John Racener Breaks a Promise to Jeffrey Ishbia

Dec 6, 2010

After a flop of [Ks10d6s], WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener is all in, and Jeffrey Ishbia asks, "How much?" As the dealer begins to count Racener’s stack, he says, "Too much." The all-in amount is 80,000, and there is already about 100,000 in the pot. (Racener’s all-in may represent a raise rather than a flat bet.)

Ishbia thinks for a bit, and Racener says, "I’ll show if you fold. And if you call, too," getting a laugh from the others at the table.

Ishbia thinks a bit longer and quietly folds, and when the dealer pushes the pot to Racener he gives his cards to the dealer face down, who moves them to the muck. A few players give Racener a hard time for saying he’d show and not following through.

Racener says to Ishbia, "You knew what I had, right?" Ishbia says, "Well, I have an idea." Racener says, "That’s what I had."

Scott Vener, sitting next to Ishbia, says, "It’s because you weren’t vocal that he didn’t show. If you had asked, he would’ve shown." Racener says that yes, he would’ve showed if Ishbia had asked.
