Huck Seed Doubles Up -- Slowly

Sep 1, 2015

Huck Seed

A player raises UTG+1 to 2,900, and Huck Seed (pictured) moves nearly all in from the cutoff for 14,500 — except Seed still has 500 behind as he was shuffling those chips in his other hand. His opponent tanks for a while, asking Seed if his hand is any good and whether or not he wants a call. Seed engages him, telling him that he’s ready to gamble. (Seed just entered this tournament for the first time on Day 2.)

Eventually, his opponent (who has Seed covered but doesn’t have a lot of chips) calls, and Seed turns over his Heart 5Club 5. His opponent keeps his hand covered and says, “I have pocket sixes.” Another player asks him to show his hand, but the UTG+1 player points out that Seed isn’t yet all in since he still has 500 behind. Seed asks to see the pocket sixes, but the player refuses to turn over his hand

The flop comes Club KHeart JHeart 6, and the UTG+1 player thinks for a while before he checks, saying he actually has pocket fours. Seed checks behind, saying that he is going to be nice and give his opponent a free card.

The turn card pairs the board with the Spade 6, and the UTG+1 player checks again. Seed says he can’t give him a free river card, so he moves all in for his last 500. His opponent calls and turns over Club AHeart Q — two overcards with a gutshot straight draw.

The river card is the Diamond 4, and the pocket fives hold up for Seed to win the pot and double up in chips. As he stacks the pot, Seed reminds him that he got the four he was asking for.

Huck Seed – 33,600 (56 bb)

Most of the other players at the table were quiet during the hand, which took a surprisingly long time given the circumstances. When it’s all over, one player says, “Well, that took much longer than it should have.”
