Dean Arsenie Leads WPTDeepStacks Amsterdam After Day 1B

May 6, 2017

Dean Arsenie

After 12 levels in Day 1B Dean Arsenie was the clear chipleader, two starting stacks clear of his nearest rival. The Canadian who comes from Rotterdam bagged 221,100 chips, well clear of Day 1A chipleader Johan Strijbis.

His nearest contender in the Day 1B was Niels van der Heijden (166,100) but there will be a lot of poker left to play when players resume tomorrow.

Joining them in Day 2 is Andreas Klatt who currently sits atop the MonteDam Swing Leaderboard after two deep runs in Monte Carlo. According to him, he was in “sleep mode” as he bagged up 53,900 after celebrating his success last night.

It was a good day for some Dutch legends, with Govert Metaal (259,00) and WSOP final tablist Michiel Brummelhuis (93,400) both bagging up decent stacks.

Some names from Day 1B took another shot at proceedings today including Robert Soogea and 2015 WPT Amsterdam champion Farid Yachou, neither of which would go on to bag at the end of the day.

Juha Helppi and Mark Vanderloo (were also participants in Day 1A and they lasted until the end of the day on this occasion and will join the field for Day 2. Vanderloo bagged 29,400, meanwhile because the tournament carries a “best stack forward” policy, Helppi is faced with a pretty easy choice between the 800 chips he bagged on Day 1A and the 138,500 from Day 1B.

Some players who joined the field late on include Jack and Louis Salter, and fellow Brit Tom Hall, but unfortunately they bust before bagging began for the night.

A more fortunate late-registration was Felipe Ramos, who was in fact the last player to register in the WPTDeepStacks. After finding pocket Aces first hand, he almost doubled his stack at that point and never looked back, eventually bagging 55,400.

Full chip counts from all those advancing will be available tomorrow. We also anticipate hearing details of payouts shortly after play recommences for Day 2 at 4p.m. local time.
