S20 WPT Australia David Tang Winner

David Tang topped a field of 710 entries tonight to take home the first-ever WPT Main Tour title awarded in Australia. He took home the top prize worth AUD $647,470, and he will have his name added to the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup. He also took home a WPT Champions Trophy, and his prize package includes entry into the US $10,400 buy-in season-ending WPT Championship. On top of that, the World Poker Tour will be covering Tang’s airfare and accommodations at Wynn Encore.

Here is what Tang had to say after the victory: “I’m still a but stung, but it’s awesome. I wasn’t expecting to get this far. To be honest I was actually trying to cancel my flight here because I wanted to watch the (Australian Football League) Grand Final in Melbourne, but they wouldn’t give us a refund on our flights so it just all worked out … I haven’t played in a tournament since the Aussie Millions in 2020, so once I made Day 2 and 3 it was actually quite fun getting deep in the tournament for sure.”

The final table was a long one today, with a particularly long battle during-three handed play. Here is how Tang responded when he was asked about keeping his cool during the swings in the pace in play. “It was quite swingy, there were some pretty good players at the final table, they were all playing pretty good. Everyone wasn’t making too many mistakes, no one made it easy. So it was tough, it was a tough final table,” said Tang.

Tang is more of a cash game player than a tournament specialist, but he felt an urge to play in this historic WPT Australia event. “I just heard it was going to be a big tournament. I figured a lot of people from Australia were going to be here, so it seemed like a good chance to catch up with people that I hadn’t seen in a while, and a few of the Melbourne guys as well,” said Tang.

Tang was also excited to win his seat in the WPT Championship around the holidays in the United States in Vegas. “It’s always a good time to be in the States around that time during Christmas as well, so it will be good. I will see you there,” said Tang.
