David Richard Cairns Folds the Best Hand, But It Works Out For Him

Aug 22, 2016

Andrej Markovinovic raises under the gun to 5,500, David Richard Cairns calls UTG+1, and Noeung Troeung moves all in from the small blind for 22,600. Markovinovic tanks for a while before he reraises to 40,000, and Cairns folds Heart 8Diamond 8 face up.

Troeung turns over Club AClub 8, and he needs his hand to hold to stay alive against the Diamond AClub 5 of Markovinovic. Cairns reacts to the fact that he folded the best hand, but then says something along the lines of “Watch an ace come anyway.”

The board comes Spade AHeart QSpade 7Spade KClub 7, and an ace does come, along with a pair of sevens and a high card to provide kicker protection. Both players have aces and sevens with a king kicker, so it’s a chopped pot.

Andrej Markovinovic  –  200,000  (83 bb)
Noeung Troeung  –  30,000  (13 bb)
David Richard Cairns  –  92,000  (38 bb)
