David Crane Loses to a New Player at the Table who Turns a Straight

Jun 28, 2018

After a flop of Spade KClub JHeart 8 with about 7,500 already in the pot, David Crane checks the big blind, and a player who just got moved to the table bets 4,000 from UTG. Crane moves all in for exactly 30,000, and the new player tanks for a while before somebody calls for a clock.

A floorperson arrives for the countdown, and the dealer agrees that enough time has passed, but the new player complains that he should be allowed more time because it’s his first hand at the table. As the clock is counting down, the new player calls with Diamond QDiamond 10 for an open-ended straight draw.

Crane turns over Heart KSpade 3 for a pair of kings, and the new player needs to improve to stay alive.

The turn card is the Spade 9, the river card is the Diamond J, and the new player turns a king-high straight to win the pot and double up in chips.
