Omar Lakhdari Ready to Go One Step Further at WPTDS Portugal Main Event Final Table

Sep 3, 2017

Omar Lakhdari
Just over three months ago Omar Lakhdari narrowly missed out on taking down the WPTDeepStacks Cannes Main Event, eventually finishing second for €43,720. Today the Algerian has the chance to go one step further after making the final table of the WPTDeepStacks Portugal Main Event.

From what we have seen so far, there is little reason to believe that Lakhdari can’t go all the way, with his tell-tale mix of aggression and table mannerisms making him a tricky player to come up against.

However, Lakhdari won’t have it all his own way. Despite coming into the final table with an overwhelming chip lead, it is perhaps too early to call it an unassailable one! True, he does have as much as the players in second, third and fourth place currently combined, but Paul Marius, Francisco Lopes and Omar Cabral will be looking for opportunities to put a dent in Lakhdari’s chip stack – sooner rather than later.

Pedro Goncalves is the only other player over half a million chips, which is good enough for around 30 big blinds when play gets underway later today.

Gregory Janin, Joao Franco, Pedro Ferro and Manuel Borges round out the final table, all with sub-20 big blind stacks, but tournament poker has shown in the past that the short stacks at final tables can be among some of the most dangerous players.

Here’s how the final table looks coming into today:

Seat 1. Francisco Lopes – 913,000 (57 big blinds)
Seat 2. Pedro Goncalves – 506,000 (32 big blinds)
Seat 3. Omar Cabral – 572,000 (36 big blinds)
Seat 4. Manuel Borges – 179,000 (11 big blinds)
Seat 5. Pedro Ferro – 237,000 (15 big blinds)
Seat 6. Gregory Janin – 266,000 (17 big blinds)
Seat 7. Joao Franco – 238,000 (15 big blinds)
Seat 8. Omar Lakhdari – 2,409,000 (151 big blinds)
Seat 9. Paul Marius – 953,000 (60 big blinds)

As you can see, Lakhdari has on all four of those short stacks mentioned above; an interesting dynamic which should make for an exciting and thoroughly enthralling final table here at the Casino Vilamoura on the southern coast of Portugal.
