The bubble phase is always tense and exciting but usually, a playground for the big stacks to bring down the hammer. Massive chipleader Victor Choupeaux must have had that exact plan in mind, but it backfired massively.

After Erwinn Pecheux had opened from the cutoff to 12,000, Choupeaux three-bet from the small blind to 36,000. Pecheux called to see a flop of Spade ASpade 4Club 4 appear. Choupeaux bet 21,000 and Pecheux called.

On the Club Q turn, Choupeaux bet 66,000 and Pecheux called again. Both players checked the X A on the river. Choupeaux showed the Diamond 4 and Pecheux showed Club AClub 9 to take down the hand.

Choupeaux quickly lost two more pots and slipped to 240,000 shortly before the dinner break. Pecheux was up to 490,000 after the hand.
