Sam Soverel Leads Day 2 of WPT L.A. Poker Classic

After five 90-minute levels of no-limit hold’em, Sam Soverel leads the way at the end of Day 2 of the WPT L.A. Poker Classic.

At the start of the day, there was still one level open for players to late register for the event and when registration closed, the field size and prizepool were calculated. There were 515 players who had put up the $10,000 to take their shot at a WPT title with the top 63 players earning a cash. The total prizepool is just shy of $5 million and first place for this event is just over $1 million.

At the end of the day, there were just 111 players still alive fighting for the title and first place prize money.

The aforementioned Soverel leads the way with 466,400 in chips. Joining him at the top of the counts are Ty Reiman, Matthew Lapossie and Oleksii Khoroshenin with 442,700, 398,700 and 320,700 in chips, respectively.

Other notables to make it through the day include Phil laak (205,600), Ryan Riess (299,800), David Paredes (111,600), Andy Frankenberger (87,200), Mike Gorodinsky (194,500), John Hennigan (251,100), Bryn Kenney (109,000), Joe McKeehen (218,500), Stephen Chidwick (317,000), and current WPT Player of the Year leader Cate Hall (82,500).

Players will come back for Day 3 on Monday at noon PT for another five, 90-minute levels. The tournament staff expects to reach the money in the middle of the day on Monday and play is scheduled to wrap up around 8:30 p.m. WPT.com will have complete coverage of the day’s action as the tournament pushes through the money bubble and continue to inch closer to the final table.
