Born and raised in Minnesota, Lyle Berman has been a competitive and ambitious person from his early years. At the elementary school age, he was running marble games with a financial edge, managing a lemonade stand with his sisters, and performing yard work around the neighborhood for extra money. By ten-years old, he was working at his father's fur company, employment that would extend for many years until he eventually took over the business, bought and sold it, and made it into a multi-million dollar investment as Wilson's leather retail stores that had outlets across the United States. As far back as he can remember, investing and saving money were paramount and instilled in him by his parents. Poker was always an important part of Lyle's life, as he learned the game early and moved up to hosting poker games in college, even coming under scrutiny from the university for such participation. Amidst his many business endeavors as an adult, he decided to read Doyle Brunson's Super System in the 1980's, and he took what he learned to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He cashed in a number of events dating back to 1984, and he won his first WSOP bracelet in 1989 in the $1500 Omaha limit event. With a well-rounded education in all of the poker varieties, he was recognized by pros as an already accomplished player. In 1992, Lyle added another WSOP bracelet to his resume in the $2500 no-limit hold'em event, then another in 1994 in the $5000 no-limit deuce-to-seven draw tournament. Since then, he has been inducted to the Poker Hall of Fame and is one of the most respected players in the game. He plays cash games with the best pros in the world in the Big Game - $4000-$8000 mixed games " when time allows. And all the while, he has expanded his business resume to include his role as the Chairman and CEO of Grand Casinos, Inc. which transformed into Lakes Gaming Corporation, the Chairman of the Board of WPT Enterprises, and numerous other endeavors. His life and experiences have been detailed in the recently published book, All In.
